| The Château de la Hunandaye in Pledeliac is a medieval fortified castle built in the 12th century, on a former gallo-roman setting at the edge of the Forest of La Hunaudaye. There is a fabulous little creperie by the chateau and it is quite possible to cycle here from L'Orfeu. You can either visit the Château yourself or take a guided tour and in the summer they have lots of fun and informative childrens' activities too. |

In the Village of Saint Esprit des Bois, near Plédéliac, The Ferme d’antan is a former farm, abandoned then transformed into a working museum. It is fun to visit anytime but especially during the wood and bread festival on first Sunday in August and the chestnut festival on the 4th Sunday in October - both great experiences.

Boquen Abbey Built on the edge of Boquen Forest, near Plénée
Jugon, this Cistercian abbey is open to visitors all year, from 9.00 am
to 5.00 pm (7.00 pm in summer), except during services. It is a national
Historic Monument that was founded in 1137 by Olivier II, Count of
Dinan. The abbey went into decline from the 16th century, and just
before the French Revolution, when only the prior and three monks lived
there. It was totally deserted for over a century and in 1936, Dom
Alexis a Cistercian monk came back to Boquen and took over the
Abbey. Gradually, he and a couple of monks re-established Cistercian
monastic life and rebuilt the buildings (refectory, library,
chapel…)These efforts resulted in the Abbey being ranked among the
National Historic Monuments in 1938. |
